A thought for consideration…..

I spent a large portion of the 03-04 year arguing for conservative values. Those who frequented the 5th Quarter Lounge or any of the other spots that I spent time arguing politics know that I did with politics and democrats what I do with Open Theists – rip them a new one.
06 is finding me a bit disillusioned with some aspects of the current administration. I do think that Bush was the best man for the job – I just happen to also think that both of the 04′ candidates sucked. Those who know me know I voted both pragmatically (who has the best chance of winning ?) and according to my values (who has the *closest* set of values to mine as a believer ?). Of course, I’m not alone. Most of the republican party isn’t too happy with Bush either, as he’s been doing more wacky things here and there (i.e.- immigration, Harriet Myers nomination) than a little bit. Bully for him on the things he’s gotten right (the two folks who got put up on the supreme court).
However, my thoughts here go a bit further than our little 260 million person country with the most money and the most bombs and guns.
A while ago, MacArthur (John MacArthur) said that he believed that America wasn’t on it’s way to God’s judgment…. it was in the progressive stages of judgment by God for its’ sins.
Looking back at some things over the past 100 years, I can see it. Kicking God out of the classroom and instead attributing creation to a nameless, formless, non-intelligent thing as ‘natural selection’…. yeah, that falls in line with Romans 1:18-23 real easy.
And as man has exchanged the glory of God in creation (Psalm 19:1-6) for evolution, humanism, ‘me’ism and every other ism, men’s understandings on how human beings should relate to oneanother and the creation itself has slowly become darker and darker.
Think about it.
30 years ago, gay marriage wasn’t an issue. Do you really think that ‘all of a sudden’ folks have become wiser in marriage and deconstructed it so it can mean anything…. or have we stepped away from the ideal of what marriage and sexuality were originally intended to be ?
30 years ago, abortion still carried some stigma….. now, children beat each other in the stomachs and push people down staircases in order to force miscarriages. The same mentality that says ‘it’s a blob of tissue, not a life’, had one teen and her male friend do exactly this for six months (baseball bat to the stomach) and she delivered a stillborn child at the end of that time.
20 years ago, were people as openly rude and self-centered as they are today ?
Lovers of themselves, open homosexuality, people approving of those who do things which are deserving of death….
All of those things happen in the latter part of Romans 1 after God has handed over a nation and a people to their own sinfullness.
So all of the American Patriotism = Christianity talk can sometimes be a LOT out of wack. I’m a Christian first. My first concern needs to be with spreading the kingdom of God, not ’saving America’. God has America’s days numbered – just like every other ‘great nation’ in history – from Babylon, to Egypt, to Rome. They all rise, they all fall.
Looking at the financial situation our country is currently headed toward, I wouldn’t be surprised if we changed into the United States of Meximerica in the next 50-60 years. A few well-placed terrorist attacks, school system breaking down because our educational system will continue to suck, overimmigration from the south, outsourcing, lowballing and an entertainment-based culture will continue to lull many folks to sleep and have the country fall out right from underneath us.
And maybe that’s a good thing.
